By Bornat York
I cannot say enough about these shoes, and the styles sold by J.D. Fisk!!!
I've had these shoes for a little over a year now, and have just come back this year for a re-purchase in black leather. I NEVER RE-PURCHASE THE SAME SHOE! However, after all of the wonderful complements from friends (from New Mexico, Texas, New York, and Virginia) I am confident that the style of these shoes are avant-garde. I don't know why there are only 9 review for this shoe, but I truly believe that you could not find a better boot for the price (and believe me, I've looked)!
Boots/Oxford-style shoes that I have bought in the past range from Kenneth Cole (Reaction), Guess, Aldo, John Lennon Montreal Lace-Up (Check out my review), and Timberland (youthful days) so I'm pretty familiar with the style/wear of most manufacturers. These boots far surpass any that I've owned previously. I judge shoes/boots off of style, versatility, comfort, and price (in that order), and these boots have exceeded my expectations on all levels.
***STYLE***
These boots have a perfect blend of edginess and class. Most boots these days seem to adhere to a common theme. They either look to wide (space boots), or too clunky (as if I'm preparing to hike up the Karakoram Mountains). I've always dreamed of owning a pair of boots that would find the perfect blend of style and class. These boots have a nice long (not too long), slender profile that comes to a sleek and crisp pointed toe. It makes them look more distinguished (very gentlemanly as a lady friend of mine put it), giving you an extra prominence in your gait. Additionally, I have received positive comments about these boots from all around the country, from males, females, and even my friends from the UK and Jamaica, who both have radically different styles, but somehow still seem to find these boots appealing.
***VERSATILITY***
I've worn these boots with jeans and slacks, and for both casual and formal occasions. They never seem to disappoint. I'm already a short person, 5'5, so these boots give me a slight elevation (1/2'' or so), which makes me feel, well, slightly elevated. I just feel more confident when I wear them out. I'm sure this is purely psychological, but with all of the positive comments I've received while wearing these, I know that when I go out that I look good, which I guess is the reassuring confidence that I feel. I guess the only thing I can say these wouldn't go well with are shorts. Then again, I'm a relatively conservative dresser. Whose to say it couldn't be done?
***COMFORT***
Most comfortable boots I've ever owned! And I don't say that lightly. I used to think that no fashion boot could ever be comfortable, then I bought these. I have (very) flat feet from playing football and running track for most of my life, so it is difficult to find a pair of shoes (other than running) that take that into account. I don't know if it was the manufacturer's intention, or just a convenient consequence, but the leather and base of these shoes provides just enough flexibility to allow someone with a a wider foot to wear them comfortably. I wear a size 10, and these felt like they fit my foot perfectly. They have a slightly wider base then most shoes, but not wide enough that I think someone with normal feet would feel uncomfortable. Basically, it seems like the base accommodates a wider foot, but the leather allows the boot to conform to the individuals foot for a snug and comfortable fit.
After longer periods of wear these shoes do seem to become a bit uncomfortable from their lack of cushion. I've only noticed this a handful of times though, after about 6+ hours of constant walking on my feet around the city of NY. Based on that, I likely wouldn't choose to wear these shoes for a job where I worked on my feet all day. But, to me, this seems obvious. It's a fashion boot, I don't think it was manufactured with ultimate comfort and stability in mind.
***PRICE***
When I originally purchased these boots a year ago they were $107.95, but I just re-ordered them in black for $76.00. At either price I think that the shoe is money well-spent, but I can't help but feel a bit disappointed that I paid almost $40 more last year. However, I would have paid nearly twice the original price if I knew the type of boot I was getting. I've never paid over $200 for shoes so please don't take that statement lightly. I truly believe that there is no better fashion boot on the market today. It's an absolutely amazing product that you can get **dirt** cheap on Amazon right now. At this price, even if your skeptical, it's worth trying a pair. If you don't like them (which is highly unlikely), then return them. It's essentially a risk-free purchase. And think about this: the Clark Desert Boot has not changed its style since who knows, yet they still sale on Amazon for on average $110 a boot. And these days everyone seems to own a pair. Why not try something new? My friend wears nothing but Clark Desert Boots and says that if I didn't have these boots, he would purchase them hands down. Who knows, I'll have to tell him about the sale price, he may change his mid.
***SLIPPAGE***
Oh, I should also mention, as another reviewer pointed out, that these are a bit slick on some surfaces. I've actually almost ate it coming down a flight of carpeted steps when I was in NY. However, for most surfaces the smooth finish does not detract from your stability. In fact, I will say because of the slick surface, they are slightly more convenient on dance floors, and make me feel a bit more lithe in my movements. I don't know, for some it may be more important, but for me, it has no bearing on my review of the product.
***AN ASIDE***
I also purchased the JD Fisk Men's Pete Boot, which has a similar style, but the look is a bit more weathered and casual. I have not received these shoes, but based on this pair alone, JD Fisk was able to get an additional $180 from me, for a re-purchase and an upgrade. Again, I'm not one to re-purchase anything, much less write a review of this length and detail, but I was a bit annoyed at the lack of reviews I found here. The Clark Desert Boots have over 300 reviews, yet my friend (who is an avid fan of the Desert boot) says that these are far superior! Furthermore, who wants a boot that everyone has? Honestly, the allure of having a boot that no one else had was half the reason I made the purchase in the first place. For them to live up to, and then surpass my expectations has been a pleasantly added benefit.
THE GIST:
Style: 10/10 - Classy/Edgy - for the young sophisticate (25-40 age range)
Versatility: 10/10 - These could be worn casually with jeans, or formally with slacks, take your pick
Comfort: 8/10 - Bit uncomfortable after long wears, but overall the shoe wears great for any type of foot - flat, wide, or otherwise
Price: 8/10 - I bought these when the price was over $100, which is reasonable for the quality, but I'm a bit disappointed that I couldn't get them at this price. Hence, why I bought another pair - I'm such a sucker!
Overall: 10/10 - I couldn't ask for a better boot. Thank you JD Fisk, you've been awarded a loyal customer.
To all: If you're on the edge on whether you want to purchase these shoes, do yourself a favor and click proceed to checkout. You won't regret it.

These boots are beautiful, they are exactly what I was looking for. I am a size 12 and it fit just fine for me, although I've seen that some people have had trouble finding the correct size. I bought the Tobacco color and I must say it is not nearly as bright as the picture shows; it is a much lighter brown in my opinion. All in all these shoes are great and I would highly recommend them.

stylish boot, really fits casual or business casual. What surprised me most is it fits well on my foot and feels super comfortable considering its look.
